I’m almost 65 as of this writing, and still working full-time. If I hadn’t made a change in my diet a few months back, I wonder if I’d be able to keep at it.
The change? Raw.
Vegetables are at their best uncooked. Most of the nutrients are still in the produce, even though storage would have cause some of the nutrients to dissipate.
My breakfasts have been essentially a carrot, a few florets of broccoli and a capsicum (bell pepper), preferably a red one.
And the difference in stamina? quite noticeable!
However, what’s also been noticeable has been our food bill: vegetables aren’t cheap, particularly since I pick them up at IGA instead of Woolies, which would take quite a bit longer to get to after work. So, I’ve decided to have a look at growing our own.
Well, neither of us are meticulous gardeners. Oh, we mean well, but are rather busy most of the week, and the little garden patch gets neglected. I mean, I’m flat-out mowing and trimming once a week! So, our rosemary is doing amazing, our curly parsley is gamely hanging in there, and our basil? looking a bit stressed.
Actually, I’m looking into hydroponics / aeroponics. It promises to be low-effort / high-yield.
Now for some links: first, YouTube:

— BrightGreenThumb – some hydroponics in the video list
— This really great site on making a simple 5-gallon bucket system
Of course, there are a lot more site, but that should get you started. I have a membership at Pinterest, which has scads of info on both aeroponics and hydroponics (to view pinterest pages, you’re required to sign up, but it’s free, so I reckon you really should).
I’ll be devoting pages to this, as well as videos. I’ll start where we are now with our garden:
